Wednesday 1.30

Objectives All students will be able to:
  1. Understand the origins of political parties in the United States.
  2. Identify and describe the three major periods of single-party domination and describe the current era of divided government.

Activities
The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will be assigned one of the following time periods: 1800–1860, 1860–1932, 1932–1968, and 1968–present. We will use the timeline on pages 128-29 of the text as a basis.

Using historical resources, newspapers, magazines, and any necessary art supplies, groups will create a collage depicting the significant historical events and major contributions of the dominant party during this era. Be sure to include the names and years served of Presidents in the dominant political party. Your collage will actually be right on the main wall with the timeline.
